Lala Skin Essentials recommendations for having the perfect at-home spa day

With so much uncertainty right now, a space for finding calm and relaxation is essential. While the lavish pampering of our local spas isn’t available, there are ways we can emulate those dearly missed spa environments and luxurious spa treatments. So, we thought we’d share some of these techniques with you in hopes of helping you relax while we’re all staying home and doing our best to keep each other safe.

Here are our recommendations to create the perfect at-home spa day.

Start by creating a relaxing environment

Find a Quiet Spot

Seek out space where you’re unlikely to be distracted by daily life, or at least where interruption is as unlikely as possible. We recommend a bathroom with a tub so you can have a warm bath, and so you have a door between you and the world. (Sorry world, we’ve closed our doors and can’t hear you through all this relaxing!)

Play Calming Music

Soft meditative music can help set the tone for relaxation, and relaxing playlists can be easily found online and through meditation apps. Set your phone and speakers to a low volume, and move them safely out of your way, especially if you decide to include a warm bath in your spa day. This also prevents your phone from becoming a distraction. (…although, I wouldn’t tell if you were to sneak an Insta pic to show off your spa setup to the #LalaTribe…)

Use an Oil Diffuser

Spas typically have a comforting, relaxing smell to them, contributing to the overall experience. To achieve this at home, use an oil diffuser with relaxing essential oils. The National Sleep Foundation discusses scents that help sleep, and you know what they all have in common? The scents are relaxing, making them perfect inclusions for your spa. The sleep foundation recommends lavender, jasmine, valerian and vanilla.

Light Candles

Candles help develop a spa-like ambiance with their low, warm and soft lighting. Find candles with scents and natural wax that complement your essential oils and natural skincare regime.

Settle into Your Spa Setting

Before starting your spa treatment, take time to appreciate the ambiance you’ve created and begin to calm your mind.

Next, give yourself a full-body treatment

Exfoliate & Apply Body Oil

Exfoliate the entire length of your body to clear away dry skin and to prep your skin for the body oil by using a brush, cloth or body scrub. Once you’ve finished, you can apply the body oil.

Our Premium Gold Oil is a golden option (I couldn’t help myself!) as the oil not only heals and moisturizes your skin but also improves the look of it. This is thanks to ingredients like organic shea and cocoa butter and organic almond, jojoba and argan oil. Use this opportunity to massage areas of your body that hold tension (like your neck and shoulders) as you apply body oil to your skin.

Cleanse Your Skin

Slowly and mindfully massage your face with your cleanser. We recommend using the Tea Tree Facial Cleanser because of its versatility in treating skin. Its rich, oil content helps soothe, cleanse and nourish the skin by providing vitamins, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties. Take your time applying the cleanser to clear away any leftover dirt or acne-causing oils. Let the vitamins and skin nourishing properties soak into your skin.

Apply Your Face Mask

Once your face has been carefully cleansed, it’s the perfect time to apply a deeply nourishing face mask to clarify your skin and give you that fresh-from-the-spa glow. Our Tea Tree Face Mask can achieve just this and leave your skin feeling refreshed and clean after its application.

Let the mask sit for half an hour and then rinse it off. We recommend applying it once a week, making it the perfect excuse to check-in for another spa day this time next week. (Yep, you read that right, we just found another way to justify pampering yourself!)

Run a Warm Bath

After you’ve massaged the body oil into your skin, and applied your face mask, submerge yourself in a warm bath. Let your entire body relax in the warm weightless feeling. Using body oil before bathing helps your skin hold onto moisture in the water, according to Dermatologist Michele Farber.

The simple act of taking a warm bath does wonders for your mind and body. Pentucket Medical says doing so can “calm the nervous system, reducing the levels of stress and anxiety in the body and improving your mood.”

After your soak, generously apply body butter, like our Lavender Body Butter, to keep your skin hydrated as you head back into the real world. And remember, taking time for self-care is essential.
